deAurora Showroom, Inc., 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza, Suite 1499, Chicago, IL 60654
The deAurora Showroom has been an anchor at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart for more than 30 years. The Blumenthal Family, chiefly deAurora CEO Mark Blumenthal, has developed a reputation of quality and service that has allowed the showroom to weather the tumultuous furniture marketplace and secure a place in the Chicago and National Design Community. Never settling, deAurora continues to work with the best artisans and craftspeople to please our discerning clientele.
Peter Joyce has been serving as the Director of Design at the deAurora Showroom for eight years. His background in staging and furniture design make him an integral part in influencing the Chicago design community to move into ever edgier territories of urban style. “I love to interpret trend from the streets and mature it into high design,” says Peter.
"Stanford’s commitment to locally sourcing materials whenever possible, expressing the potential of local artisans and craftspeople, and continual investment both financially and socially into the regional economy elevate their brand beyond their competitors." -Peter Joyce
Inspired by loft style and modern open plan living, Peter selects pieces meant to be approached from all angles. “They anchor a room,” he says, “can be dressed up or down, and lend themselves to the test of time.” Peter looks for chicly understated detail--simple woven body cloth to emphasize architectural lines, smokey silhouettes juxtaposed with strong geometric graphics, clean yet organic wood textures and leathers to ground the minimalist aesthetic, enhanced cushion fills and reinforced seams for crisp, comfortable, low maintenance modern lifestyles, stylistic ambiguity for perpetual reinterpretation with the substitution of a pillow or addition of an accent piece.
Partnership with Stanford
deAurora strives to create honest furniture. In a marketplace saturated with upholstery providers, they choose suppliers based on the highest standards of quality, integrity, and environmental and social responsibility. “Stanford’s level of customer service and detail-driven accuracy goes far beyond our expectations,” says Peter. “For years, we have utilized Stanford’s almost limitless custom capabilities to create detailed bespoke upholstery pieces that can stand against any of the major design houses. Stanford’s commitment to locally sourcing materials whenever possible, expressing the potential of local artisans and craftspeople, and continual investment both financially and socially into the regional economy elevate their brand beyond their competitors.”
